Rhythm Of Life
Owing to my strong passion for dance and movement, a peer and I took the initiative to engage with the Jeevarachanai Foundation to teach the young, abandoned girls dance, movement and mindfulness. We instantly connected with this organization because their values of freedom, responsibility, independence and kindness that they wish to inculcate amongst abandoned girl children resonated with us. We worked with them over a period of three years and this created a strong bond. As a part of this initiative, we choreographed and led a traditional dance performance of these girls celebrating the 75th year of Indian Independence (Colors of Freedom) to raise money through ticket sales for the education of these girls. This gave them a sense of self confidence and belief that they can use their skills to raise funds for their needs.
Goals
- Taught dance, movement, and mindfulness to 16 young, orphaned girls.
- Provided an art based and skill-based education support.
- Choreographed and organized an event that showcased the Indian traditional dances they learned.
- Raised money through the sale of tickets to support their education.
