Wear A Mask
In the early days of the COVID 19 pandemic, there was a shortage of face masks. Recognizing this need, my sister and I started making reusable cloth masks using simple household material. We used cotton fabric with a high thread count, non- woven fabric (kitchen towels) and elastic bands to make comfortable masks. We also trained 15 orthopedically challenged women at the J-Rehab center to make these masks, providing them video tutorials and detailed work instructions. While it helped us scale our initiative, it also provided them with a livelihood which they continue to date by selling masks to industries in and around their workplace in Madurai. Our social media campaign ‘Wear a Mask’ actively spread awareness amongst the community on the usage of face masks to prevent the spread of COVID 19.
Goals
- Donated 10,000 protective face masks to hospitals, NGO’s and community workers that required them.
- Equipped and empowered 15 orthopedically challenged women to make and distribute protective face masks in their community.
- Created awareness in the community on wearing face masks to prevent the spread of COVID -19 through the active use of social media platforms.
