I am married and have a 3-year-old daughter. My husband died of covid-19 two years ago. I was at a loss as to what to do next. At that time, I came to know that Care for Chennai, a charitable organization operating in Chennai, had started a new branch in Maraimalainagar and was providing free sewing training and free sewing machine to widows like me, and I also got trained for Industrial products like aprons, overcoat, cap etc. Care for Chennai provided me with a free sewing machine and got a contract to make overcoats for women workers working in companies. I prepare those products and take care of my family. On behalf of myself and my family, I would like to thank Care for Chennai, an organization that has taught me that widows like me can live a self- reliant life in the society.

I am married with two children. My husband and I work as agricultural labourers. There is no fixed income for us. We had a lot of trouble supporting our family because of this. At that time, I learned about Care for Chennai, a charitable organization based in Maraimalainagar, which provides free sewing training and machines to people like us. Within a short period of time, I mastered the overcoat, cap, and handbag. A sewing machine was given to me for free. Using it, I make 3,000 cloth bags a month and sell them to Higginbotham’s, the famous bookshop in Chennai. Therefore, my economy is booming. Thank you, Care for Chennai, for this wonderful opportunity and for enabling our family’s Economic advancement. I express my sincere gratitude on behalf of myself and my family.

I completed my studies with a grade of +2. My father passed away when I was a child, and I live with my mother. I also have a younger sister. By doing housework, my mother keeps us both studying. The circumstances of my family prevented me from pursuing further education. At that time, I came to know about Care for Chennai, a charitable organization in Chennai that offers sewing training and sewing machines for free to people like me. It was a rewarding experience for me and I completed my training diligently. I received a free sewing machine from Care for Chennai. Then I sewing sarees, chudidhars, jackets, etc. for the people nearby. It has changed my family situation in my family and I have the chance to pursue higher studies (degree). I am deeply grateful to Care for Chennai for enabling this change to take place.
